Psychogeography with Jack B. Yeats, Dublin

The Psychogeography with Jack B. Yeats project is a unique augmented reality (AR) experience centered around art, music, culture, and walking. By combining technology with the captivating works of Irish artist Jack B. Yeats, the project explores new ways to make cultural experiences more accessible and engaging.

The AR app showcases Jack B. Yeats' artwork, accompanied by original music soundscapes. With the app, users can go on a virtual walking tour through the streets of Dublin, experiencing the art and music in the very streets that inspired the famous artist. Jack Yeats lived in Dublin from 1929 until his death in 1957, and many of his paintings were inspired by the city and its people.

To make the experience as authentic as possible, the project licensed high resolution images of Jack Yeats' artwork from the National Gallery of Ireland. The app also includes text narratives from the artist’s life, including letters, interviews, and historical research.

To add an Irish touch to the soundscapes, traditional Irish songs by violinist Ken Rice have been incorporated into the app's design. This fusion of art, music, and place through augmented reality creates a captivating experience that allows users to connect with Jack B. Yeats' artistic legacy in a unique and meaningful way. Users can also play in random mode, anywhere in the world. The image below, is from Donostia-San Sebastian, a city in Spain.

Beyond pushing the boundaries of design, the Psychogeography with Jack B. Yeats project is a celebration of Dublin's rich cultural heritage. Through the use of technology and creative exploration, the project aims to captivate and inspire individuals, fostering a deeper connection to the art, history, and spirit of the city.
